Dakota # 35 and Jordan # 21

This month has just flown by!!

Basketball season is officially underway!! Girls have an awesome team this year!! They took 1st place in the Hooker Jr. High Tournament. Won all three games by quite a bit and played excellent. Their next game they played was at Keyes and they won it by a lot too (45-11). So they are 4 and 0 right now!! Texhoma tournament starts Monday. Should be some more good games!!!

Had a nice Thanksgiving, just the four of us at home. Bryce wasn't able to make it out this year, but guess we'll get to see him for Christmas!! We smoked a turkey and had all the extras to go with it, Grandma Margie even gave me some noodles to fix that day, so we had awesome noodles too! lolll Thanks Grandma!!!

Friday I took the girls to town to do a little shopping, wasn't going to go, but Jordan wanted to get something for Tyler (her boyfriend) at one of the sales, so we went. Wasn't too bad really, we didn't go until around 9:00 that morning and the crowds had pretty much cleared out!!

Getting excited for Christmas, the girls and I put up our tree already, I'm almost done with my shopping and everything is even wrapped and under the tree now!! The girls had quite a surprise this year and they are so excited!! My Dad and step-mom are taking them on a cruise to the Bahamas for their Christmas present this year!! What an awesome gift, they can't wait!! We went in and got their passport applications sent off and put a rush on them so they'd make it back in time. Now the next thing on their lists is getting nails and toe nails done and going to tan a few times so they won't be the whitest people on the ship! lolllllll

Hoping everything works out and we make it to Laverne for Grandma Margie's Christmas, I look forward to that every year!! Just hope the weather cooperates for everyone this year!!

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and enjoyed some time with their families!!!

October Updates

Well, here it is almost the end of October and I'm just now getting around to updates! lol

Things are going good here. Ed is staying busy with work. For the most part, he loves his job now. He's not real happy with it when the weather is bad and he has to fight the muddy roads all day. But that doesn't happen too often around here! lol

Bryce is doing good. Still living in Shattuck and working for a local contractor. Still on the volunteer fire department.

Girls are doing great!!! Just found out that they both made the A team for basketball. That really tickles them and me!! Pretty good for their first year in Hooker. Cross country is officially over for the season and that breaks Dakota's heart. She loves it so much. It quickly became her favorite sport. She did awesome all season, received medals at every meet and was the lead jr. high runner!! Jordan liked it too, but not nearly as well as Dakota did. Jordan's big things was trap shooting. She did awesome!! Went to 3 local meets and one meet in Dodge City and Kinsley, KS. She did great all season, competed with all boys, all but one was older than she was! She won 1st place in her age group at the Kinsley meet in September! She was pretty proud of her medal! She can't wait to start up again next year. Both of the girls made straight A's the first 9 weeks of school also, so that was wonderful. The principal even called them to the office and told them how proud he was of both of them for being such great students academically and for being so involved in all the extra-curricular activities as well. He told them that sometimes coming from a small school like Straight, it was a hard adjustment to the larger school like Hooker, but they made that adjustment with flying colors!! I'm so proud of them!!!

We got to spend some time with Mom this month also. It was so great to see her and spend a couple days visiting and shopping together, just like the old days!!

I think that about catches us up for now. This has not been that busy of a month (compared to most months). I've gotten started on my Christmas shopping even!! It will be here before we know it!!

August 2009

Well, here it is almost the end of August and I'm just now getting around to August news! lol The 7th of August Ed and I celebrated 20 years of marriage!! We went out to eat that evening and rode around in the vette for a while. The 8th, Jordan had a trap shoot. She did awesome!! She's in 1st place in class b. Pretty good for her first year and for competing against all those older boys!!! The following weekend, Ed and I went to Colorado Springs for our anniversary. The girls stayed with their friend Janelle. We had a great time. Did some sight seeing and some shopping. Just enjoyed the weekend together.

The girls started school on the 12th. They are really enjoying it. They already knew a few kids and they have already made a ton of new friends. They have both already had lunch "dates" with boys. OMG - NOT READY FOR THIS!!! lolllllll Jordan went out to eat one day with a boy in 8th grade. His name is Bonner. Dakota on the other hand now has a full fledged boyfriend. They have gone out to eat together everyday this week. They are constantly texting or calling or emailing each other. But - she's pretty heartbroken already - today is his last day at school. He's moving to CA. His name is Brandon and he's also an 8th grader. They'll be able to stay in touch through texts, calls, and email of course, but it's not the same. So she's pretty bummed about that!!

Tomorrow is Bryce's 19th birthday!! Hard to believe I have a 19 year old. I just can't be that old! lollll I'm going to Shattuck to see him and take him out for lunch tomorrow. He has to work, so I'll only get to see him for an hour for his lunch break, but guess that is part of being a grown up and out on your own. Gotta work and pay the bills! lol

Saturday (29th) the girls have their first cross country track meet. It's at Watonga. Ed and I won't be able to go, he's working this weekend. I have to have the girls at the school by 4:15 Saturday morning to catch the bus. Gonna make for a long day for them and me! lolll I'm anxious to find out how they do!!

Grandma Margie and Grandma Jordan both came for a visit this month. Grandma Margie stayed one night and we had a really good time!! We sure enjoyed her. Grandma Jordan stayed for two nights and we really enjoyed her too!! I'm so lucky to still have both of my Grandmas that are able to go and do so many things!!

Well, I think that about catches everyone up for August. I'll post some CO pics in another thread. I'll try and update again for September next week. My calendar is already full for the month of Sept. lol

Red River

Yesterday we decided to take a road trip to Red River, NM. It's about 4 hours out there so we left around 7:00 and headed that way. It was a lot of fun. We did some sight seeing and just enjoyed the drive and the scenery. Poor Jordan though, something got her allergies going and she ended up with some sort of pollen like stuff all over her contacts after our first stop and first hike down to take some pictures. She was miserable, ended up having to take her contacts out and didn't have her glasses, so she spent the rest of the day not being able to see very well (lucky girl can't see past the end of her nose without her glasses, just like her mom!!). She ended up having a horrible headache of course and just not a real fun trip. But she was such a trooper, she still hiked with us, and made the best of it and never complained!! We also met up with some friends out there and had lunch and did some shopping and Ed and Brent rode the go-karts. The girls were going to but since Jordan couldn't see well, she decided to wait until next time! lol We're gonna make another trip out there soon and hopefully this time she will really be able to enjoy it!!!

7-6-09

Things are still pretty busy around here, although July should be somewhat easier! The girls still have cross country and open gym, but softball is officially over for this season. They ened up with 3rd place for the season and 2nd place in the tournament.

We didn't get to go to Laverne for the 4th like we had hoped, Ed had to work Saturday morning and stick around in case something happened that afternoon and evening. We really didn't do much of anything all weekend, just hung out at home. Ed got the trap shooting field all laid out for Jordan. So she can really get serious now! lol She's got another trap shoot this coming Saturday and if she does as well there as she has been at home, she's gonna kick some butt!! lol

The girls are both doing great with running cross country, they run their 2 miles every morning and then usually run again of an evening. Even though softball is over, Dakota is going to continue to meet with her pitching coach (only met with him once so far) throughout the year. She's gonna meet with him once a month until around Jan or Feb. probably and then start going twice a month to get ready for next season. She's pretty excited about it.

Ed's been staying busy and still loving his job. We've got another car show coming up in September that we plan on taking the vette to. Should be fun!!

Bryce finally got a full time job and he's really enjoying it. He's working for a local contractor in Shattuck and doing all sorts of things from remodling houses to welding. He's staying pretty busy!! Didn't get to see him on the 4th, as he stayed in Shattuck to help out the other volunteer firemen put on all the festivities in Shattuck that day!!

Not really much of anything else going on right now, just the same old thing around here. lol I can't believe that this summer is almost over though, school starts in about 5 1/2 weeks!

6/10/09 Updates

Things are going well here. Ed is staying busy with his job, he really likes it. The whole getting laid off from Nabors was a true blessing. This is so much better and he is so much happier. We love having him home earlier everyday and every weekend!!!

I'm keeping the roads hot between here and Hooker and here and Guymon. I feel like I live in the suburban most of the time! lol On the good side though, I have got a lot of reading done so far while I sit in town waiting on the girls for everything! :o) Dakota keeps telling me I need to read her Twillight book - that should occupy my time for a while! lol

The girls' softball team is doing okay, they don't quite have as good of a team as they have in the past, but they are all coming along. The girls are on the younger of the two teams, so most of the girls (besides my two and one more) this is their first year to play major softball. We've got a few girls that are trying to pitch and doing a fairly good job, but being so young(although most of them did pitch in the minors last year), they tend to walk more girls than anything else. But I'm sure they will all get better with a little more experience! Dakota decided that she would like to try her hand at pitching and I have to say that she is doing awesome!! She's only been practicing for 3 weeks and I think she's doing just as well as the other girls that pitched minors last year. We got her a pitching coach and she's met with him once and she loves him, he is so awesome!!! She's really been practing and she will have more lessons with him soon. He told her to keep practicing and remember that she shouldn't expect to be a great pitcher in a few weeks, it took lots of time and practice and she is just the one to do that - she is so dedicated to everything she does!! So by this time next year, I think she will be an amazing pitcher!!!

The girls both amaze me with all their energy. They get up at 5:45 M-TH. and we go to town for them to run cross country. They run 2 miles each morning. Then they go straight to weight/speed training, then on to open gym for basketball and/or a basketball camp. Then when we get home, they are practicing basketball and/or softball. Jordan goes to gymnastics once a week, plus they have at least 2 softball games a week!! Last Monday night, their game didn't get over until almost 11:30. It was after midnight by the time we got home and in bed and they were up and ready to go run at 5:45. Me on the other hand was dragging all day! lolllll

Bryce is doing okay, still living in Shattuck. He's still not found a full time job. He's been doing odd jobs here and there and working some for my Dad on the ranch and for some local farmers. Not quite sure how he's managing to make it, but he is. He's still on the fire department and loving that. That is what keeps him in Shattuck I think, he's not about to give that up!!

Well, I think that should catch everyone up for now! :o) I'm hoping July will be a little less hectic, but I sort of doubt it! lol

Updates!!

Well, so much for me trying to do better about keeping everyone updated! lol

Things here are going really good. Today marks the 20 year anniversary of the day Ed and I met!! I wonder if he regrets that night on main street when he yelled out his window "if you're not serious, just go on"?? lol I guess I showed him that I was serious!!! :o)

He is loving his new job, keeps him busy, but he's got really good hours, off every weekend, so it's really nice!!!

This is the girls' last week (4 days) of school. I can't believe my babies are going to be going to Jr. High next year!! They have grown up way too fast!!!

Last week was the Hooker track meet, the girls did great (as always). Jordan ended up with 3 1st place ribbons and Dakota got a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place ribbon!!

They have both decided to run cross country in Hooker next year. We went and talked to the coach the other day. They will be meeting all summer, 3 days a week, at 7:00 a.m. to run. So much for having a peaceful summer and getting to sleep in!! lol AND---after they run at 7:00 a.m. for cross country, they will be going to do strength/weight training and then on to open gym for basketball!! They also are playing softball this summer and trying to squeeze in at least 2 basketball camps. One is in Guymon and the other down my OKC f0r a week!! It's going to be a busy busy summer around here!! Mom's taxi is going to be keeping the roads hot!! lol

We have still been going to some car shows with the vette. We went to one in Liberal Saturday. Took both vettes over (ours and Terry's). It was a great show. 200 cars and the highlight of the show was "Elanor" from the movie Gone in 60 Seconds was there. One of the 3 cars out of the 11 used in the movie that survived the filming. This was the one that Nicholas Cage knocked the driver's side mirror off of in the movie. It's an awesome car and so cool to have it at the car show!! A guy from Liberal owns it!! (pic of car above)

I will try and keep everyone updated this summer on ballgames and everything else that is going on. From the sounds of it, I won't have a lot of computer time though! lol

Monday, April 20, 2009

Things are looking up!!

Well, the job that Ed had in the works finally went through. He's a contract pumper for Oxy USA. He's liking the job pretty well so far, just not like getting used to all the computerized stuff he has to do! lol Him and computers don't get along very well!!

The girls had their spelling bee last week, Dakota took first place!!! Jordan didn't place and needless to say, it was not a good day! lollll But I was very proud of both of them!! Last Saturday Jordan traveled to El Reno where she competed in the state level competetion in the English category. She did really well. She didn't place in the top 3 and receive an award, but she did great and we are very proud of her!!

I can't believe it's almost time for school to be out. This year has just flown by!! I'm looking forward to spending the summer with my girls and trying to prepare myself that my babies will be in jr. high next year!! Man - where does the time go??? They have grown up way too fast!!

Bryce's house in the country fell through, so he's still living in town and not real happy about it. But he's going to continue to keep looking. He's still not found a full time job, but is staying really busy doing odd jobs around town for people and helping out some farmers, so I guess he's doing okay.

Hope everyone is doing okay and now that Ed is back to work, I should have more time to be online and keep this updated a little better!! :o)

Family Update

Well, April has not started off too well for the Burden family. The end of March found Ed without a job. Nabors Well Service laid off several people and unfortunately Ed was one of them. He does have a good job in the works right now, so just hoping and praying that it goes through!!

On a happier note - the girls have had an awesome volleyball season this year. As of today, they are tied for 1st place. Their last game is Monday night at 8:00, so wish them luck!!! Today they had volleyball pics, 2 games and their volleyball pizza party with their team. Where their coach, Kim, gave the girls each very nice trophies with their name and special award on them!! I thought that was just so sweet of her!!

Ed and I were supposed to go to the Corvettes of Enid carshow this weekend, but with all the volleyball games and pictures and stuff today, I stayed home. The girls and I spent the entire day (9 hours) in town today!! Ed and one of his best friends - RJ - left Friday afternoon and took the Vette to Enid. They spent the night and were at the car show all day today. Ed called today when they headed home around 4:30 and said he had won an award and a plaque for his Corvette. He was so excited and I'm so happy for him!! I can't wait until he gets home to see all his pictures he took. It was an ALL Corvette show, so I am just hating that I had to miss it, but I enjoyed spending the day with my girls watching them play volleyball!!! I still can't believe this is their last year. I just HATE HATE HATE that Hooker schools don't have a volleyball team. They are BOTH excellent players and it's really a shame that they can't move on to keep playing. But - they are too old for Kid's Inc. now. :(

Bryce has found him a house in the country and is in the process of moving from town (in Shattuck) to the country this weekend. He sounded pretty excited when I talked to him yesterday. He will be much happier in the country I'm sure!!! The company he was working for laid off a bunch of people too, Bryce included. So he's been without a job for two days longer than Ed has!! He's been doing some odd jobs and has his application in at a few different places.

The rest of the month will not be quite as busy for us since we wrap volleyball up on Monday night. The girls still have Awana every Wednesday though. Jordan has her academic bowl in El Reno on the 18th of this month. They Spring breakfast and Spelling Bee is the 17th. And Jordan also has gymnastics every Monday night. The girls will be out for Easter break the 10th - 13th.

I will try and update some more soon!!

Aggrivated!!

Well, I just got online and got the girls' volleyball schedule for this season! Not a happy camper about it! Every year they have played they have had games on Tuesday and Thursday nights and on Saturdays. No biggie - and it's ALWAYS over by the end of March. So - assuming (I should know to never assume) it will be the same this year - Ed and I had made plans to take the Corvette to Enid on April 4th for the Corvette's of Enid car show. An all Corvette show. We were so excited to go.....BUT - of course it couldn't be that simple! Today I find out that they are not having ANY games on Thursdays this year, but instead we get to play up to 3 games on Saturdays (meaning we will be in town ALL day every Saturday). and they last games are on April 4th!! Uggghhh!! So much for the car show!! Anyway - just had to complain a little, not much I can do about it though! lol I know that one of these days I'll be missing all the kids' activities that we have to go to. I'll be wishing we could be in town all day for volleyball games! lollll

More of Jordan's room

Jordan put yorkie pics all over the back of her door. We also just finished up decorating her bulletin board and got it put up. I picked her up the Love sign yesterday while shopping with Grandma Margie and I also found stickers that matched her border, so she decorated her trash can with them!! She got the "Sweetie" recently too.

More pics of Dakota's room

Finally got Dakota's border in (it was on back order) and we got it all put up. So here are a couple shots of the border and one of her wolf drawer pulls!!

Time for an update!!

This has been a busy month!! The girls have started volleyball. They practice on Monday and Thursday nights. They will be having games on Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday. (as far as I know right now) Jordan was having gymnastics on Monday nights also, but her gymnastic coach was nice enough to have a small class meet on Sunday afternoons so the girls don't have to choose between volleyball practices and gymnastics. So - that is nice for Jordan to not miss volleyball on Monday nights, but makes for one more trip to town for me each week! lol

I went to Dodge City with Grandma Margie yesterday, we had such a good time. We got to do some shopping and have lunch and visit. It was great. We're planning on doing it again soon!!

This weekend the girls are going to Winter Jam (a Christian concert) in Tulsa. They are spending the night with Nelle and her family on Thursday and leaving from there early on Friday. They won't be home until late Saturday evening. They are really looking forward to it!

Looks like March is going to be a very very busy month too!! I'll blog about that later! :o) Hope everyone had a great day!!!

Time for volleyball!

Well, with basketball season over, it's time to start volleyball!! Another happy but sad time - I love watching the girls play volleyball and they love to play. They are both really good!! So I'm very happy that volleyball season is here and I can't wait to watch the games. But a little sad, because this will also be the last season for them to play volleyball. They play in Guymon with the Guymon Kid's Inc. But the last year they can play is 6th grade, so this is it! Just way too many last things happening this year! I'm not liking it! lollll I would give anything if Hooker would start up a volleyball team within the school system, but I really don't see that happening. Guymon has one, but we don't want our girls going to school in Guymon! So - here's to hoping that they have a great last season of volleyball!! Sign ups are the 9th, then practices will start and games will be throughout the month of March!!

Tournament of Champions!!

This coming Saturday (7th) Jordan will be going to Guymon to compete in the academic bowl "Tournament of Champions" She is a little nervous, but I'm sure she will do great!!! Wish her luck!!!

A happy, but sad day!!

Well, today the girls had a basketball game - the happy part: WE WON!!!!!!! My girls did awesome!!! Dakota scored 10 points, and Jordan scored 6. Nelle scored the other 4 points for a total of 20 points!! It was one of those games that if coach had left our starters in more, we'd have completely slaughtered them. But he took the starters out and put in the 4th grade girls. We still won 20 to 15 though! It was 20 to 1 when he took our starters out! lol Now for the sad part: It was the girls' VERY LAST basketball game that they will ever play for Straight Grade School!! And for Coach Harris. So, while I'm thrilled we won today, I'm also a little bummed that it's all over. Of course they will play next year in Hooker too, but we are just really gonna miss Straight School and Coach Harris!! Congratulations on a great season girls!!!!!!!

Dakota's Room

We did her room in wolves. Still waiting on her border to get here, it's been on back order. The rest of her room is pretty much done though. I'll take more pics when I get her border up!!

Jordan's new bedroom!!

Finally got her bedroom pretty much done. Still need to get some curtains (hoping we can talk Grandma Margie into that! lol) and we still have a few more pics to hang on the walls. BTW - that is not a spot on her wall - just something on the lens of my camera I guess! lol

The girls had an awesome birthday!!!

Wow - I can't believe my babies are 12 years old! Where does the time go. Seems like just yesterday we were bringing them home from the hospital! They really just grow up way too fast!!

They really had a nice birthday this year. As always their birthday fell on the Straight basketball tournament. So they had to play basketball on their birthday. They ended up getting 2nd place in the tournament, so they were happy about that.

We had a HUGE surprise for them for their birthday - since one of their best friends (Jett) moved to Enid last summer, they have really missed her. They have seen her a couple times, but not the same as getting to see her everyday at school. So - I made arrangements with her mom to meet in Woodward on Friday night and for Jett to come home and spend the entire weekend with us. It was all a total surprise for the girls - they knew nothing about it!! Janelle (their other best friend) rode the bus home with them on Friday and we then all got in the suburban and told them we had to go pick up some parts for Ed's work at Woodward. They moaned and groaned a little because they knew it was gonna be a long trip (2 hours one way). But they all 3 loaded up and we took off. Needless to say, when we got their and Jett jumped out and said "Jordan, Dakota" and I said "Happy Birthday" the squeals and hugs and giggling started!! These four girls have all been best friends since kindergarten, so all four of them were just thrilled to death to see each other!! We got Jett all loaded up and went to eat and then headed home. Ed said he should have brought his ear plugs, listening to four girls all the way home! lol They stayed up late watching movies, playing games and talking Friday night. Then Saturday we all got up and we let the girls open their gifts. They got a lot of nice things, but what excited them the most was the Wii. They were so happy and all four girls spent all morning playing it!! Then we all went to watch the basketball tournament. Since Jett used to go to school at Straight, Mrs. Hill (the superintendent) let her dig out her old cheer uniform and cheer with the girls during the game. So again - all four girls were back together cheering on the sidelines of the game. It was great!!! When the girls' game was over, I had had cookies made in their school colors and each girl on the basketball team had their # on a cookie and one cookie said "coach". So they had cookies with their basketball team for their birthday! Also to add to their excitment - my Dad and step-mom came out to see them and watch them play basketball. And our good friends RJ and Carrie came to watch them play ball. So they were pretty pumped up!! After their game, they all cheered at the boys game. The boys also took home 2nd place!! Then we all loaded up and went to Caktus Jacks and had a nice birthday supper. Came home and had cake and ice cream and then the girls all four stayed up late playing Wii, watching movies and giggling all night! lol Jett's dad came to get her around noon on Sunday to take her back to meet her mom at Woodward and we took Janelle home around 1:00. The girls were tickled to death over their gifts, all the phone calls, and cards and money and esp. their big surprise - Jett! lol It was definitely a birthday they won't forget!!!
